Building the shot instead of solving it

The folding Paris street in Inception, the rotating corridor, the water planet in Interstellar and the inverted car chase in Tenet were all staged physically first. The constraint is expensive and inflexible: a set that folds can only fold one way, so the shot has to be designed before it is filmed rather than assembled afterwards.

The university received 2,340 applications to the nursing program in this year’s main admissions round, an increase of eleven percent from last year. The part-time option accounts for most of the growth.

– We see that more people who are already working want to take the program alongside their jobs, says the head of studies at the Institute of Health Sciences. The part-time track lasts four years and is based on in-person gatherings.

Universitetet øker antall studieplasser på deltid fra 40 til 60 fra høsten. Praksisplasser i kommunehelsetjenesten er fortsatt den viktigste begrensningen for videre opptrapping.

120 new study spaces will open in the Science Building from 1 August. The spaces are distributed across three reading rooms on the second floor, one of which is a silent study room.

The expansion comes after the student parliament for two years has pointed to a shortage of study spaces during exam periods. All the spaces have power outlets, and 40 of them can be reserved in the room reservation system.

The university has entered into an exchange agreement with Tohoku University. The agreement covers up to six students per year in the natural sciences and technology.

Instruction at the partner university is conducted in English for exchange students. Knowledge of Japanese is not required, but applicants are recommended to take an introductory course in Japanese language and culture before departure.

The first application deadline is February 1 for stays in the following autumn semester.

Universitetet har inngått utvekslingsavtale med Tohoku University. Avtalen omfatter inntil seks studenter per år innen realfag og teknologi.

Undervisningen ved partneruniversitetet foregår på engelsk for utvekslingsstudenter. Det stilles ikke krav om japanskkunnskaper, men søkere anbefales å ta et innføringsemne i japansk språk og kultur før avreise.

A research group at the Institute of Biosciences has mapped the condition of kelp forests at 42 locations between Rogaland and Trøndelag.

The survey shows regrowth in southern areas where sea urchin density has declined, while the population remains stable farther north. The dataset has been made publicly available through the Norwegian Marine Data Centre.

Master’s students in marine biology took part in the fieldwork and are using parts of the dataset in their theses.

The board has approved changes to the examination regulations effective from the autumn semester. The most important changes concern the use of generative artificial intelligence and the deadline for withdrawing from exams.

The course description must now explicitly state whether and how AI tools may be used in the individual assessment format. Where use is not permitted, submitting AI-generated text is considered cheating.

The deadline for withdrawing from an exam has been changed from seven to fourteen days before the exam date.
