Plot
A killer sends coded letters to San Francisco newspapers between 1968 and the early 1970s. The investigation spreads across jurisdictions that will not share evidence, and the reporters and detectives who start it are worn down or moved on. Cartoonist Robert Graysmith keeps going long after everyone else has stopped.

A procedural about the failure of procedure, and Fincher's best film. It refuses every satisfaction the genre normally provides, including a solved case. The basement scene is more frightening than anything in Se7en, and nothing happens in it.
