A student asked: "I work full-time, I want to work with children, and I can't move to Bergen." These are the programmes in our catalogue that lead to work with children, compared on campus, application deadline and duration.

Recommendation

Barnehagelærer, deltid is the only programme that matches all three conditions. It is part-time, mostly online, and qualifies you as a pedagogical leader or head of a kindergarten.

Check before applying

  • The programme page does not say where the campus sessions are held. Confirm the location with the study adviser (laerer@demo-universitetet.no).
  • The programme includes 100 days of practice placement. Expect to arrange leave or adjusted hours with your employer.
  • A police certificate is required at the start of studies.

Sosialt arbeid leads to child welfare work (barnevern), and Grunnskolelærerutdanning qualifies you to teach years 1 to 7, but both are full-time on campus in Trondheim and do not combine with a full-time job.

Not considered a fit: Sykepleie, deltid (sessions in Bergen, and not child-focused), and Lektorutdanning i realfag (full-time in Trondheim, and aimed at lower and upper secondary pupils).
