Film 2014 IMDb 8.5 /10

A drummer and a teacher who thinks cruelty produces greatness. Directed by Damien Chazelle, released 2014.

Plot

Andrew Neiman wins a place in the top ensemble at a conservatory run on fear by conductor Terence Fletcher. Fletcher's method is humiliation, thrown furniture and endless retakes, justified by the belief that comfort has never produced a great musician. Andrew gives up everything else to satisfy him.

Review, written by AI

Cut like a thriller and scored like a fight, and it refuses to tell you whether Fletcher is right. Simmons is magnetic and entirely without vanity. The final nine minutes are among the best-edited sequences of the decade.
