The rating is the reviewer's own score, not an average of readers and not imported from another site. It is set when the review is published and is not adjusted afterwards, even when a film's reputation changes.

Reviewers are not paid by studios, distributors or streaming services. Press screenings, screeners and festival accreditation are accepted; travel and accommodation paid for by a distributor are declined. Any remaining relationship between a reviewer and a film is disclosed in the review itself.

Reviews avoid spoilers for the first four weeks after a film's general release.
Anything that a viewer could not reasonably expect from the trailer or the premise: the identity of a killer, a death, a twist, or the ending. The existence of a twist is itself treated as a spoiler.
Plot summaries describe the setup and the first act only. They are written to be safe to read before watching. Where a summary has to mention a later event to make sense at all, the page carries a spoiler warning above it.

A specific argument about one film. We do not commission unfocused round-ups, ranked lists, or reviews of films that have been out for more than a year unless there is a reason now.

Film pages do not carry national age certificates, because they differ by country and change over time.
Where a film contains material a viewer might want warning about — sexual violence, suicide, child harm, sustained animal cruelty, or flashing imagery that can trigger seizures — the review states it plainly in the last paragraph, under the heading "Warnings".
Films known to contain sequences that can trigger photosensitive epilepsy are flagged whether or not the effect is severe.

We correct factual errors quickly and visibly.
Email corrections@example.com with the page address and what is wrong. Errors of fact — a wrong year, a miscredited director, a misspelled name — are fixed within two working days.
The page is corrected and a dated note is added at the foot of the article saying what changed. We do not silently edit a published page to change its meaning.
